Launderette: Reviews & Ratings

Laundrette in Austin absolutely delivers. Set in a former laundromat, the space is thoughtfully designed and ideal for a date night. The food was excellent across the board. The wood fired octopus was perfectly cooked, with just the right balance of char and tenderness. The redfish with broccolini was moist and flavorful, slightly salty but still very well executed. The pork belly with frisée salad was outstanding, hitting the sweet spot between smokiness and richness. The house cocktails were creative and well crafted. The mint julep was the only miss, slightly watered down and short on mint. That aside, the experience was excellent. We will definitely be back.

Always excellent. I'm surprised this place isn't always packed, as the food and atmosphere is fantastic. Never been disappointed in any way. The octopus was stellar, every bite a pleasure. Our crudo was fresh and bright. The hamburger was simple yet profound, executed perfectly. The drinks were quality and delicious. If you haven't been, GO!

Somewhat quirky place on the east side of Austin. We went for a late dinner with no reservation and sat at the bar for a unique experience with a view of the open kitchen. The menu items were creative and for us presented some new ingredients, e.g. carta di musica and jardineira. We had the white bean hummus and the “lettuces” salad, both good. Staff was nice. The clentine granita dessert was amazing.

Launderette is a quaint and charming spot nestled in a lovely neighborhood with easy parking and thoughtfully curated decor. The ambiance is warm and inviting with great seating options that make it a wonderful place to enjoy a meal out. The cocktail menu has some standout options. The Malfy Spritz was especially delightful, light, refreshing, and reminiscent of an upscale lemonade with butterfly pea blossom for a floral touch. In contrast, Kay's Coupe is more gin-forward and great for someone who enjoys a stronger drink. Appetizers were a highlight. The pomme frites and house-made chips with pimento cheese were both solid starters. The pimento cheese was fresh and flavorful, a huge leap above store-bought versions. The sticky Brussels sprouts were slightly al dente, but the sauce and Parmesan made them very enjoyable. The striped bass crudo was delicious, with an intense heat that I personally liked, but the menu doesn't mention that it's very spicy, which could catch some people off guard. The burrata was excellent, especially paired with a huge piece of perfectly toasted bread. A delightful surprise was the tempura snap peas, crispy, unique, and full of flavor. The lettuces with citrus breadcrumbs were the only disappointment among the starters, as the citrus breadcrumbs made the salad heavy and soggy. For mains, the bistro steak had good flavor but was a little bit tough, likely due to the cut of meat. The Texas redfish tasted good, though it was a bit oily and the portion was smallish. Those wanting more seafood might prefer the whole branzino, just be mindful of the bones. The sticky pork ribs with hoisin sauce came in a generous portion and would be ideal for those who enjoy a sweet glaze. Desserts: the raspberry tart was a nice option for a light dessert and would appeal to fans of white chocolate. The carrot cake, however, was underwhelming. If you're expecting a classic carrot cake, this is not it. It’s more of a light surprise and misses the mark if you're looking for that rich, spiced texture and flavor of carrot cake. That said, the honey crunch served with it was absolutely amazing and the highlight of the dessert. The surprise of the evening was the decaffeinated coffee served on a beautiful tray that everyone appreciated, a perfect way to end the meal. Service was impeccable with kind and attentive staff. Launderette is a wonderful place to visit for a well-rounded and memorable dining experience.

Had a fantastic lunch here. The service was amazing, super informative and friendly. All the food we ate was fantastic especially ths deviled eggs and marmalade brussel sprouts. A great stop for lunch when walking around lady bird lake. We didn't reserve and walked in, but apparently it gets super busy on weekends.

We came here for Sunday brunch and liked the light filled space and atmosphere. The food took over 35 minutes to arrive which felt slow. Between the two of us, we shared the asparagus Benedict (the flavour was great but the portion was very small and it only came with two tiny slices of asparagus), chicken sammie (chicken was a bit dry but still tasty) with a side of the frites (these didn’t feel fresh) and the blueberry pancakes (decent but not the best we’ve had).

Laundrette is an enjoyable place for brunch. It definitely gets busy and they squeeze a lot of tables in so it makes it feel busy and not as personal. The staff are kind, but busy so definitely make a reservation. Food came out pretty quickly and was tasty! We rate the burger 4.7/5, the pork shoulder hash 4/5, and the jammy egg 4/5. Our biggest takeaway away is that the portions are quite small. The burger did not come with sides and the jammy egg came with a singular egg. This may be typical for Austin, but the crowded atmosphere and the rushed staff encouraged more a diner atmosphere than a fine dining one. It felt confusing then if the hustle and bustle impersonal atmosphere equates to more fine dining take-your-time tapas style menu. I also wanted more laundromat or convenience store imagery from the decor if that's the story behind the restaurant. It felt like a missed opportunity to me. Parking was quite easy. There's a lot in the front that fits probably 20 cars and street parking around that's especially open on a Sunday. We may be back, but we'd probably opt for somewhere that committed to either diner atmosphere and diner portions or fine dining experience and fine dining price.
